The Big News

OK, as promised, there’s big news to be shared here. That’s why our 30 days of “frugal August” were held up a little bit. I stopped putting up the posts, but will resume and get us all caught up.

Pennywise Family is getting a makeover. (A BIG ONE!).

Pennywise Family is about to fully appear at www.thepennywisefamily.com. A real-live domain name. A real theme. All of it. Search options, everything. I’ll make a note here when the transition is complete, but for now things are fairly up-and-running over there–take a look around and let me know what you think.

I think the new site will be fully-functional at the beginning of September! If you have ideas that should be included, just let me know.

Also, once the “30 days of frugal August” is all put up, I’m going to be working on a post series of $1.00 dinners. (You heard it boys and girls, one buck!). Please send any ideas/recommendations on this way. I’ll consider them as I plan the menu. (I may employ my kids as food critics to make sure the food is decent–cheap isn’t always good!).

I look forward to hearing back from you about what we shoudl do more/less of to make Pennywise Family better!

I am super excited about the dollar dinners! Is it a buck a plate or what? so excited!

  • jessc098

Yes, it'll be $1 a plate (unless somebody really clever comes up with a $1
per whole meal recipe). :) I'm working on creating menus now, and will also
work on a way to post reviews (my plan is to have my kids review these).

Logistically, it's actually a really big deal that will take a lot of
    research time.

I'm posting the rest of the “frugal august” posts today and then can get on
to the research of the $1 dinners. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, $1 a plate.. unless we get REALLY clever. :) it takes a lot of planning so I’m not giving an official start date yet. I’m racking my brain and crunching a lot of numbers. Also trying to plan a video of the kids “judging” the dinners.

Is this the cost per serving or the cost per person or what? How do you calculate costs if using portion of say a bag of flour? Ive got tons of meals that are less than $1/person.

ok first meal is one weve been eating for several days b/c I goofed on the portion sizes. We are 2 adults, one teenager(15) and 3 boys ages 6-10 and a baby(who doesnt eat). Ill give you the portions and approximate costs. We are eating it the third day.
Turkey soft tacos and spanish rice.

Turkey(from freezer Whole bird bought with coupon for $.50 and I saved the meat) But will put 50cents as cost.

    Soft tortilla(small) 20 pk $3= $.15 each,
    Lettuce(head) $1= used less than 1/4 $.25
tomatoes from garden(in pots on porch) free
total cost per less than $.20 each

    Spanish rice
    3 cups rice appx $1
    1 can/jar spaghetti sauce $1
    1 hot pepper $.10
    1/4 onion $.25
    total cost: $2.35 /3 days =$.78 /meal

Assuming we each eat 2 soft tacos that i $1.20+$.78= $1.98 Not bad feeding my family for $2 a meal or $.33/serving

    hope this helps
